The Bourne Identity

The Bourne Identity

The story is pretty straightforward when it comes to the Bourne Identity, but it’s the screenplay and the performances of Matt Demon and his co-stars which have got the movie live and kicking. Based on Robert Ludlum’s spy trilogy novel- Jason Bourne, the Bourne identity was one of the best flicks of this series.

The first scene of the movie sets the mood and the pace at which the rest of it flows. Matt Demon is found floating in Dark Ocean by some Italian fishermen, to whose surprise Demon is still alive. The audience is further engrossed when they find out that the man has two bullet injuries in the back and a Swiss account number. With that backdrop, the audience finds out that the man has no idea of who he was and what he was doing in the middle of the ocean. On reaching his Swiss Bank account, he finds out that his name is probably Jason Bourne and that he has some money, few guns and around a dozen passports with different identities in his bank locker. He also figures out that someone is after his life and trying to kill him.

The real twist to the story comes when the audience (but not Bourne) comes to know that Bourne actually is a CIA agent, who had failed to assassin an African leader living in exile. This was, unfortunately his last mission that he had failed to execute, leading to embarrassment for the CIA and his mentor- Chris Cooper. The audience then realize that Bourne is just another target of his own legacy, and the rest of the movie revolves around his journey to find who he is, what he was doing in the ocean and why are some people trying to kill him. Although, the movie get obvious at times, yet this action packed spy flick is one of its kind and therefore, is a must watch.
